7 Tips You Have to Try before Swim Suit Season

As warm weather approaches many women are thinking about the upcoming season of bathing suits and shorts. Instead of feeling apprehensive about your bodily image, focus your energy on preparing for the summer season with simple tips you can start now:

1. Stock up on Sunscreen
You may be hoping to hit the beach or the pool and get several shades darker, but you need to protect your skin in the process. Skin cancer causes the death of more young women than any other form of cancer and wearing sunscreen protects your skin from the harsh, cancer-causing parts of the sun. Stock up on a broad-spectrum UVA sunblock with an SPF of 30 and apply every 2 hours.

2. Purchasing Swimwear
A big mistake many girls make when purchasing swimwear is to buy it too small. Pick out the suit that fits you without causing a muffin top or back fat by squeezing too tightly. You don’t want anything too loose either, though! A droopy bathing suit won’t look right and might even come off by mistake in the water.

3. Get Motivated
If you really want to drop the fat, you will need to eat healthy foods. Swap out your sugary snacks for fruits, your salty snacks for veggies and stop fast food altogether. Fatty, sugary and salty foods will cause your body to store fat—fat that covers over any muscle tone you are trying to build.

4. Mini-Meals
Going on a healthy diet certainly doesn’t mean going without eating. Skipping meals will actually cause your body to store up more fat for later. Instead, eat small portions 5-6 times a day of beneficial foods and give your body what wants…what it really, really wants.

5. Working Hard
While your diet is important and shouldn’t be neglected, your workouts will be important to your summer shape and shouldn’t be neglected either. Tone your body as you cut fat by working out hard for 30 minutes at least 3 times a week. Add simple work outs, like squats, sits ups or planks, to days you don’t spend in the gym so that you don’t take a complete day off.

6. Don’t Take the Negative
This is a great time to remove those friends who are adding negative drama to your life. You don’t need the drain on your self confidence when you have to struggle through snide remarks and catty standards. Too often, girls put up with a group of friends who are more harmful to their lifestyle than helpful. Surround yourself with positive, hardworking, honest and successful people and you will be boosted in your own self-worth.

7. Moving Beyond Yourself
Now that you’ve had a few tips on how to help yourself, it’s time to think about helping others. Too much self-focus will make you feel unsatisfied. Find a way to give back to the community or help someone who is less fortunate—selfless acts keep our perspective balanced and not just concerned with our own worries.

This doesn’t mean throw money at the nearest charity—take a time out of the week and find an activity that you can support with your time or work. Look for something that you are passionate about and find a way to really get behind it and help out.
