Online dating: dos and don’ts
The twenty-first century has made meeting all those fish from that great big sea so much easier. Online dating isn’t just a fairy tale; it can be an extremely effective method for finding and getting to know potential suitors. But just like any social networking environment, there’s a set of unspoken protocol about how you should behave in an online dating environment. If you’re new to online dating, here are a few tips to get you started.
lie on your profile. Misleading people in an attempt to get more individuals to contact you is a sure-fire way to be inundated with disappointment. Present yourself just the way you are; if this is going to go anywhere, the person on the other end needs to know (and like!) you for you!
include several full-body images of yourself (preferably doing something fun, exciting, or different that can act as a conversation starter). Physical attraction is an important factor in early and pre relationship phases. You want to ensure that whomever contacts you knows there is the potential for that spark.
give out your home or work address before you get a real feeling for whom this person is. Online dating may be a viable way to connect with others, but there are still plenty of less than savory characters out there. Ensure your safety first!
arrange dates in a public place where you know there will be plenty of other ambient people around, especially for your first meeting.
hang your hopes on meeting “the perfect one” right away. It takes time to find that special someone; and the old axiom about kissing frogs hasn’t gone away with the digital age. Be patient with yourself, and keep at it.
stay active on whatever website you’re using. Many of the search functions will bump your profile higher on the list based upon how frequently you log into the website. Even if it’s just to look at a few profiles a day, staying active will help you stay visible.
