Taking the time to look closely at fashion magazines can reveal a lot. When those items are being put together, the illusion is that there are always different pieces on the model. That couldn’t be further from the truth.

The key is knowing how to put together items that work and picking up fantastic finds along the way. You can find lots of great items at discounted fashion stores like TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Burlington Coat Factory.
If you love the mall, find what you like and go back to that store two or three weeks later. You’ll find those items that were at full price will be offered at a deep discount, some up to 50%! If you’re willing to wait a little longer and risk the chance of your items being sold, you can even get them at 75% off. When new seasons come in, that’s the time to get those items for little or nothing.
Thrifting is also a hot concept now. You can find great bargains at thrift stores, especially when they are having their $1, $2 and $3 sales. Do your research and find those stores that are in very nice areas. These have the best items and some of them are even brand new with the original tag still on them! Thrift stores are great places to find scarves, blazers and tops.
When doing your shopping, have a plan. You should have at least three outfits in mind that you want to create. When you’re on a budget, this is important. Overspending is not an option. Getting staples should be your top priority and then work your way into accent pieces. Fashion is all about what you make it, and everyone has their own style. Knowing how to navigate what you have and slowly adding to your wardrobe will not only make you a savvy shopper, but you’ll also learn how to make new outfits out of what you already have. Shopping in your closet can be a very enjoyable experience, and when you’re on a budget, every dollar counts!
